Hayward, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- One of the latest Division I athletes to come out of Hayward, WI is Northern Illinois golfer Kelsie Passolt.

Passolt qualified for four straight state tournaments in high school as a Hayward Hurricane, and was a captain of the team her senior year.

Now, she's a captain for the Division I Northern Illinois Huskies, and she says she sees the differences between high school and college every single day.

"When you get into a college frame of mind, especially in athletics, there are a lot of differences," Passolt said. "Not to mention that you're fighting for your spot every time you compete. We have 12 girls who all have the talent to be in the traveling five, so waking up each day to realize that your spot could be taken is something to worry about, but it also keeps you motivated at the same time."

Passolt was named MVP of the Huskies this past season, but it wasn't as if that couldn't be seen coming. She comes from a strong golfing background, with her parents the operators of Black Bear Golf Course in Hayward.

"I'm learning a lot," Passolt said, "but I am glad that I had my dad to help me through my high school years and get my feet wet."
