Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) head men's hockey coach Scott Sandelin says he's happy with the play of his team following a 7-1 exhibition win Monday night over Lakehead, particularly his freshmen.
"It was nice to see a lot of our guys contribute," Sandelin said. "A lot of our freshmen contributed. I think each one of them had a point, and some had multiple points. When you go into those games, you're just trying to get guys some game action."
Duluth, Minn. native Dom Toninato led the way for that freshman group, scoring two goals in the third period. Kyle Osterberg was another big contributor, finishing with a goal and two assists in the winning effort.
UMD will open the regular season Oct. 11-12 at home against Michigan Tech, with those games set to start at 7:07 p.m. and be broadcast live on the My 9 Sports Network.
