Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- For the second time in as many days, University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) senior offensive lineman Garth Heikkinen was named an All-American on Tuesday.

This time the honor came from Daktronics, with Heikkinen being named to the first team. He adds this All-American honor to two others this 2012 year, those being from the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) and Beyond College Sports Network.

The Duluth, Minn. native started in a UMD-record 54 consecutive games over the past four seasons, anchoring an offensive line that led the way for a school-record 46.5 points per game in the 2012 year.

Heikkinen has been named four times to the all-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), earning first team honors in the 2010-12 seasons

Since the Duluth Central graduate has assumed his starting role, the Bulldogs have posted a (47-7) overall record, won three overall NSIC regular season titles, and won the NCAA Division II championship.

Heikkinen has also been named one of eight finalists for the 2012 Gene Upshaw Award, which is given each year to the best lineman in Division II.

The award winner will be announced on Dec. 17, and this year's recipient will have the opportunity to play in either the East-West Shrine Game or the NFLPA All-Star Game
