Hermantown, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Hermantown native Jared Kolquist will be one of three Northland natives taking part this weekend in the 2012 Clyde Iron Cup, a two-day tournament featuring four teams from the United States Hockey League (USHL).
Kolquist will be playing with the Sioux City Musketeers alongside his former Hermantown teammate, Jared Thomas. The team is coached by Brett Larson, who spent four seasons as an assistant at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
"Me and Jared [Thomas], we go way back," Kolquist said. "We've always been good buds and on the same hockey team, so it'll be a pleasure to have him in Sioux City with me."
Sioux City's first game in the weekend tournament is Friday night against Green Bay, a team for which former Duluth East star Trevor Olson is playing this season.
"There's always that Hermantown-East rivalry, and we haven't played each other since bantams," Kolquist said. "It'll be exciting to get back on the ice with Trevor Olson with Green Bay. There will be a little inter-rivalry for sure."
The game between Sioux City and Green Bay is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on September 14 at the Heritage Sports Center in Duluth, and it can also be seen on live television in the Northland on the My 9 Sports Network.
The other two teams invovled in the 2012 Clyde Iron Cup are Lincoln and Tri-City, with those two teams set to faceoff on September 14 at 3:00 p.m.
