Hurricanes Win First-Ever WIAA Championship

Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Meredith Ingbretson scored three goals on Saturday afternoon to lead the Hayward-Spooner-Northwestern girls' hockey team to a 5-2 win over Onalaska in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) championship at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis.

The state title is the first in program history for the Hurricanes, with that team making just its second-ever trip to the WIAA tournament this season.

Ingbretson scored three of the first four goals for her team, helping the Hurricanes build a 4-0 lead midway through the second period.

The Hurricanes also got goals from Holly Turnbull and Annika Neerdaels in the winning effort, with Sarah Miley making 21 saves in goal.

Hayward-Spooner-Northwestern ends the season with an overall record of (22-4-1).
