Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The Madison Mallards scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on Thursday night en route to a 10-7 victory in Game 1 of the Northwoods League Championship Series, snapping the nine-game winning streak of the Duluth Huskies.
Parker Trewin got the start for the Huskies, allowing seven runs on 10 hits across 4.2 innings while striking out two batters to be hit with the loss.
The game was full of scoring plays via fielder's choice, but Madison's Alex Bacon did deliver a three-run home run in that fifth inning. Duluth, on the other hand, had five players with a single run batted in apiece and scored two unearned runs in the ballgame.
Madison now leads 1-0 in the best-of-three series, which will shift back to Duluth, Minn. for Games 2 and 3 (if necessary). Game 2 is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. on Friday night at Wade Stadium, with the ballpark's ticket office set to open at 10:00 a.m.
