Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) senior infielder Kierra Jeffers set two new program single-season records on Wednesday afternoon, becoming the new leader in home runs and runs batted in.
Jeffers first knocked a solo home run in UMD's 3-0 win over Minnesota State-Moorhead, that her 14th of the year and passing the 2007 mark of 13 set by Ellen Colby.
"14 home runs seemed so far away at the beginning of the season" Jeffers said. "Then I got to eight and nine and thought that maybe it could work. It just kind of worked out."
The senior then added 3 RBI in game two, a 13-0 Bulldogs win, to put her at 52 for the year and pass the 1998 mark of 50 set by Angie Macioce.
Jeffers already owns the career home run mark at UMD with 40, and she is now within three of the career RBI mark of 149 set by Ashley Johnson in 2008-11.
