Olympians to Highlight Grandma's Weekend

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Former Olympians Abdi Abdirahman and Meb Keflezighi will highlight the 2013 Grandma's Marathon weekend, with both confirmed as participants in the USA Half Marathon championships this upcoming weekend.

The 36-year-old Abdirahman won that race on this weekend one year ago, finishing the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon course in a time of 1:02:46.

Abdirahman, a four-time U.S. Olympian, was forced to withdraw before the halfway mark of the men's marathon at the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games.

Keflezighi, meanwhile, has never before run on Grandma's Marathon weekend. He placed fourth in the men's marathon at the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games, that after winning a silver medal in that event at the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games.

Below is listed a schedule of events for Grandma's Marathon weekend, which will kick off on June 21 with the big races to be run the morning of June 22.

Friday, June 21
6:00 p.m. --- William A. Irvin 5K

Saturday, June 22
6:15 a.m. --- Men's USA Half Marathon Championship
6:25 a.m. --- Women's USA Half Marathon Championship
6:45 a.m. --- 23rd annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon
7:45 a.m. --- 37th annual Grandma's Marathon
