Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Strong headwinds slowed skaters on Saturday at the 18th Northshore Inline Marathon, but Jarrett Paul was fast enough to take home the overall title with Katharina Rumpus finishing as the top female.
Paul crossed the line with a time of 1 hour, 16 minutes, 57 seconds, more than ten minutes slower than last year's winners. It was the first inline marathon win for the Tampa, Fla. native.
"I still can't believe it," Paul said. "It was my first marathon that I ever won. It was a great experience. Being the US Championships, it's just amazing."
On the women's side, Rumpus edged out her Powerslide teammate, Laethisia Schimek to win it with a time of 1:34.41. For Rumpus of Germany, the race marked her first trip to the US.
"It was really nice coming around the corner first. I went in a straight line and was first over the line. It was a really nice feeling," Rumpus said.
Nearly 3,000 skaters competed on Saturday for the largest inline marathon in North America.
