Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- "We're just north of the border so it's just down a highway. Pretty much a straight shot," said University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) women's hockey senior Shanley Peters.

Just north of the border, hockey is a way of life. In Peters hometown of Gnadenthal, Manitoba, it's no different.

"Growing up, I was at the outdoor rink probably almost every day when I could. It started when I was three or four. I was already skating and having a stick in my hand."

Fast forward 18 years later and the Yellowjackets senior netminder still has a stick in her hands.

It didn't take Peters very long to make an impact here at Wessman Arena. In her sophomore campaign she was named an All–American.

Now in her final season, she's been named conference player of the week three different times. Peters says though she owes all of the credit to her teammates.

"My players are there everyday helping me out. I mean, without them I couldn't have gotten better. I mean, help from there, and that's where it gotten me," said Peters.

Peters has also helped the Yellowjackets get the No. 3 seed for this weekend's conference playoffs.

Head coach Dan Laughlin says there's nothing like a "hot goalie" headed into the postseason.

"It's the number one key. Having good goaltending no matter what level you're at going into playoffs is the key. It's nice knowing Shanley will be in the net for us on Friday night. It's just everything having that great goaltending back there."
