Hermantown, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Proctor football team hasn't been to the state tournament since 2008; Hermantown hasn't been there since 2003 --- but none of that will matter Friday night as the neighboring communities battle for 'The Hammer.'
The traveling trophy will once again be up for grabs as the Hawks host the Rails, with Hermantown having won this rivalry game four of the past five seasons.
"It gives us a lot of pride in our school," Proctor senior running back Joe Carter said. "It brings us together as a team and as a town. A lot of people would like to see that 'Hammer' in the trophy case."
"A lot of it is school pride, but it's also personal pride," Hermantown senior tight end Cade Zacharias said. "We all feel a sense of accomplishment bringing home that 'Hammer.'
This year's game is set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Corey Veech Memorial Field, and it can be seen on live television on the My 9 Sports Network.
