Grand Rapids, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Grand Rapids senior forward Avery Peterson has made a commitment to play Division I hockey at Nebraska-Omaha, Thunderhawks head coach John Rothstein confirmed to NNCNOW.com on Wednesday night.
That news was first reported by GRHS Online, the unofficial home web site of the Grand Rapids boys' hockey program.
Peterson finished the 2012-13 season for Grand Rapids with 27 goals and 35 assists, helping the Thunderhawks reach the Section 7AA championship game.
In his three season with the varsity team, Peterson has accumulated 132 total points with still his senior season to play this winter.
The soon-to-be senior was also taken this past June in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, going 167th overall to the Minnesota Wild.
Rothstein told NNCNOW.com he was unsure if Peterson would begin play as a true freshman in the 2014-15 season, but he mentioned that the Mavericks will be losing four forwards to graduation following the upcoming season.
