St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- It was just 10 days ago Grand Rapids, Minn. native Avery Peterson was taken by him home state team in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, and on Tuesday he pulled on a Minnesota Wild sweater for the first time.

Peterson was skating with other prospects at the Wild's development camp, which collects some of the organizations younger players plus some future NHL free agents.

"I'm mainly here to try and get some experience," Peterson told KARE-TV. "You're playing with guys who played in the AHL or even the NHL for a few games, so experience is probably the main thing I'm looking to get out of it."

In his 2012-13 high school regular season, Peterson totaled 23 goals and 31 goals to lead the Thunderhawks before adding four goals and four assists in the Section 7AA playoffs.

Participating in the camp doesn't affect Peterson's high school or collegiate eligibility, but it's worth noting he has not yet made a commitment as to where he will play in college.

The Wild's development camp started on July 9 and will run through July 14, with University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) commit Carson Soucy also taking part.
