(NNCNOW.com) --- The high schools of Proctor and Hermantown are, for many sports, bitter rivals --- but in girls' hockey those two towns that lie just five miles apart have turned into partners, part of a co-op called the Proctor-Hermantown Mirage.
"That's kind of the coolest story of all is that they're two rivals that have come together," head coach Glen Gilderman said. "To see best friends form from different schools, it really is kind of cool."
"It's great having both schools come together and having friends from each school," senior goaltender Kylie Hommerding said. "It just makes us have more fans, and that's a great thing."
The Mirage won the Section 7A championship this season and earned the No. 4 seed at the MSHSL Class A state tournament, with the team's quarterfinal game scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on Feb. 19 against St. Paul United.
