Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The Superior boys' hockey team was not shy on Tuesday afternoon about announcing its goal of winning a state championship, but head coach Jason Kalin knows his team's path to that title will be a tough one.

"Basically when you get down there you have to beat the best to be the best," Kalin said. "That's who we're up against. We're up against No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 on our side of the bracket, so we're going to have to go down and perform our very best."

Superior will open the WIAA tournament with a quarterfinal matchup against Verona, with that game set for a 12:00 p.m. start on Thursday at the Alliant Energy Center.
