Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- For St. Scholastica sophomore goaltender Tyler Bruggeman, news of the Minnesota Wild signing defenseman Christian Folin had a special meaning --- the two were once teammates and still talk nearly once a week.
Bruggeman played with Folin in Austin, Minn. as part of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), and the Saints goalie says he could tell early on that his friend would turn out to be a special player.
"He was a monster back then, too," Bruggeman said. "He's an unbelievable skater, a good puck mover, and he's got a great shot. He shouldn't have any problem adapting to the NHL."
Folin signed a two-year, entry-level contract with Minnesota on Monday night, that after a 20-point sophomore season at UMass-Lowell and helping the River Hawks to the NCAA Northeast Regional championship game.
