Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Joy didn't take long for United States soccer fans gathered at Dubh Linn Irish Pub on Monday afternoon for the Americans' opening World Cup match, with several people still ordering beer or finding their seats as USA captain Clint Dempsey scored a goal in the opening minute.
The United States went on to a 2-1 win over Ghana, earning the team's first victory in an opening World Cup match since 2002, with more than 100 people on hand at the newly dubbed "unofficial home of the World Cup."
"Really just getting that energy," owner Mike Maxim said. "Even for people who are not huge soccer fans, you come down and once you kind of get sucked into the atmosphere of it all, you just, it's an experience."
Dubh Linn will be open at 10:30 a.m. every day during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and a special "soccer brew" will be served during the United States' matches.
