Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) interim athletics director Karen Stromme will not be one of the finalists interviewed and considered for the permanent job, she confirmed to nncnow.com on Wednesday afternoon.
Stromme said she was informed of the search committee's decision on March 15, but she declined an opportunity to make any further comment on the situation.
Hired as interim athletics director after Bob Nielson's departure in December 2012, Stromme has 30 years experience at UMD in a variety of roles including assistant athletics director and head women's basketball coach.
She has also served as the athletic department's senior woman administrator since 2003 and was inducted into UMD's Athletic Hall of Fame with the Class of 2011.
A phone call to Vince Magnuson, chairman of the 14-person search committee, was not immediately returned on Tuesday afternoon. He did tell our news partners at the Duluth News Tribune that he expects six to eight candidates to be interviewed, with the final decision to be made by UMD Chancellor Lendley Black.
