Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Superior senior runner Leah Holmes has been named a winner of the 2013 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) scholar-athlete award, one of 32 high school student-athletes to win the annual statewide honor.

Holmes carries a 3.73 grade-point average as her senior year winds down, that while earning eight varsity letters (which will become nine after the 2013 track and field season).

The Spartans senior has won three individual conference championships in both cross country and track and field, adding an individual sectional championship in track and field.

Holmes has also been involved with the National Honor Society, PledgeMakers, and Scott Anderson Leadership during his time in Superior, with those extracurricular activities adding to her resume as a student-athlete.

The senior becomes the first-ever Superior student-athlete to earn the WIAA award. She signed her national letter of intent this past February to run Division I cross country and track and field for UW-Milwaukee.
