Tigers Stay Unbeaten, Advance to 7A Semifinals

Cloquet, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Cherry softball team stayed undefeated this season on Friday afternoon, beating Ely 12-0 in five innings to advance to the Section 7A semifinals.

The Tigers are looking to defend their 2011 section championship, after which they went on to finish as the MSHSL Class A runners-up.

Cherry will now take on Silver Bay in the semifinals after the Mariners beat Mesabi East 5-1 in the quarterfinal round.

The other semifinal will feature South Ridge and Carlton, after the Panthers beat Deer River 15-5 in five innings and the Bulldogs knocked off Littlefork-Big Falls 5-0.

Those four teams now enter a double-elimination format for the Section 7A championship, which will be decided May 29-31 in Cohasset.
