Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- For the ninth straight year, friends and family honored their late friend, Tony Gigliotti, by hosting the Tony G Memorial 3 on 3 basketball tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS).

This year's event set a tournament record with 130 teams participating on Saturday and Sunday. Gigliotti died in a car accident on January 9, 2005. Just months later, his friends decided they needed to do something to honor him.

"Playing basketball was something that Tony loved, and we all did it together growing up," said Mark Johnson, tournament organizer. We decided to have the tournament, not only to be a community event that it's come to be, but also to keep Tony's memory alive."

Since the tournament began, family and friends have raised over $75,000 to donate to local organizations as well as a Tony G scholarship fund.
