Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) volleyball team is ranked #4 in the country to start the season, but the Bulldogs will be opening the year with matches against two teams ranked in the top 20.

For head coach Jim Boos, though, that strength of schedule early in the season is by design.

"That's how you prepare for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC)," Boos said, "is to play teams that are going to challenge you. Let's go out and see where we're at and what we need to get better at."

UMD will open the season on Friday with matches against #18-ranked Wheeling Jesuit and #19-ranked West Florida, with both those part of a tournament being hosted in Pensacola, Fla.
