Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) sophomore Bo Hellquist will be the opening day starter for the Duluth Huskies, manager Daniel Hersey announced on Monday afternoon, ahead of the team's season opener Tuesday.
In his sophomore campaign with the Bulldogs, the Savage, Minn. native went (4-4) in nine starts with 40 strikeouts and five complete games.
On Tuesday night, Hellquist will get his first chance to play in the Twin Ports after UMD went two seasons without a home game.
"It's pretty exciting, obviously," Hellquist said. "I get to pitch in front of my new home town I guess here in college. It'll be exciting to see all of the opening day fans and some of my friends and family. Hopefully they'll make it up here. It's always nice seeing them in the stands. It gives you a little extra reassurance when you're out there. I think it'll be a good time."
Game time between the Huskies and Stingers is set fro 6:35 p.m. at Wade Stadium in Duluth, Minn.
