Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) sophomore Chanel Miller left Tuesday morning bound for Pueblo, Colo. and the 2013 NCAA Division II outdoor track and field championships, and she feels her best performance of the year could come this week.

"I think in the past it's been opposite," Miller said, "where I've done my best in conference and then just kind of held on through nationals. I'm really hoping this week will see me at my best."

Miller has twice competed in the indoor championships, but this will be her first time at the outdoors. She will compete in the heptathlon, which is a combination of seven events that will run on both Thursday and Friday.

Four events -- the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash -- will be held on Thursday, and the remaining three -- long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run -- the following day.

Miller was named the 2013 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) outdoor women's field athlete of the year, that after she set a school record by scoring 4,886 points in the heptathlon at the conference meet.

She also is the reigning NSIC indoor women's field athlete of the year and was named an NCAA Division II All-American after finishing sixth in the pentathlon at the national meet in Birmingham, Ala.
