Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Grand Rapids, Minn. native and University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) freshman Austin Pohlen will give up basketball and play football next season for the Bulldogs, he announced via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

Pohlen played his freshman season with the UMD men's basketball team, appearing in 27 games and averaging just 1.2 points per contest.

The former Grand Rapids standout says he will play quarterback for the football team, with his first day of practice with the Bulldogs likely to come on Saturday.
