Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- UW-Superior senior defenseman Jeff Forsythe has been named the preseason Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association (WIAC) player of the year by d3hockey.com, it was announced on Tuesday.

Forsythe was the Yellowjackets' third-leading scorer last season, finishing with six goals and 12 assists for 18 total points. The web site also notes the senior's strong defensive play and positioning as big reasons he was picked for this preseason honor.

The senior comes into the season as a three-time all-WIAC first team selection and could become the program's second-ever four-time pick with another good showing this season.

As a team, UW-Superior was picked to finish fourth in the five-team WIAC by d3hockey.com, with UW-Stevens Point expected to win the title.
