Sochi, Russia (NNCNOW.com) --- Chisholm, Minn. native John Shuster and the United States men's curling team won its first match of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games on Wednesday morning, defeating Denmark by a 9-5 final score.

The Americans trailed 3-0 after the first end but pretty much dominated play from there, picking up five of the team's points when Denmark held the last rock of the end.

Denmark was unable to score again until the ninth end, which made the 10th end mildly interesting before Shuster shut the door with a double takeout on the match's last shot.

The United States is now (1-2) in qualification play and will next be in action at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday against Great Britain.

Joining Shuster on Team USA are Eveleth, Minn. Jeff Isaacson, Hibbing, Minn. native Jared Zezel, and Duluth, Minn. resident John Landsteiner.
