U.S. Routs Slovakia With Six-Goal 2nd Period

Sochi, Russia (NNCNOW.com) --- The U.S. men's hockey team led 1-0 after the first period in their Sochi debut before reeling off six goals in the second period to rout Slovakia 7-1 on Thursday in preliminary-round play at the Olympics.

Paul Stastny scored twice for the Americans while Ryan Kesley, David Backes, Phil Kessel, and Dustin Brown all added a goal for the U.S.

Jonathan Quick made 22 saves for the U.S. in his Olympic debut.

The U.S. will face off next against Alex Ovechkin and Russia on Saturday.
