St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu was scheduled to captain Team Finland in the upcoming Sochi Games but announced on Friday morning that he will not participate after injuring his ankle in January.
After playing in the past two Olympics, Koivu told media on Friday he will not play in this year's Games. Koivu won a silver medal in 2006 in Torino and a bronze medal in 2010 in Vancouver with Finland.
Koivu had surgery to repair his fractured ankle after being hit in the foot with a puck on Jan. 4 against the Washington Capitals. He has yet to play since.
