Esko, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A two-story home and garage in Esko is a total loss after a fire Thursday.

Esko Fire Chief Jeff Juntunen says the renter has been overseas since Sunday.

Nobody was home at the time, and a 1950s Chevy Classic car is among the items lost in the fire.

The cause of this fire remains under investigation.

Fire officials urge homeowners to take extra precaution during this cold front, because unsafe home heating is the second most common cause of fires nationwide.

"Be careful with portable heaters, be careful with heating devices, furnaces, and a big thing this time of year is thawing of frozen water pipes," Chief Juntunen said.

The Red Cross is also assisting two separate families following house fires in Duluth and Superior on Sunday and Monday.
