Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) -At least that's what participants in the 2012 Polar Bear Plunge found out earlier today, as dozens of Northlanders braved the elements and jumped into Lake Superior-behind the Canal Park Lodge.
The event serves as a fundraiser, as participating teams gathered pledges in the days leading up to the event-all of which will go to the Special Olympics.
According to those who took the plunge earlier today, it isn't nearly as bad as it seems.
It really wasn't that cold! It's for a good cause and it was just a split second, so it's not too big of a deal," said Ashley Peterson with the UMD Human Resources Management team.
Peterson's team raised over 9-hundred dollars for the event.
