Duluth, MN (NNC NOW) - Around 1,400 railroad cars are making their way up the North Shore on Scenic Railroad tracks this week for their winter hibernation.
The annual haul, which takes an average of three to four days, comes from a partnership between the Scenic Railroad and Midwest Energy, in Superior.
According to Depot Director Ken Buehler, the cars come out of circulation once winter kicks in and the demand for coal decreases.
Buehler says the 28 miles of track for storage offer a perfect solution for Midwest energy, and the payment goes to benefit every Depot–related program.
