Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The bi–partisan amendment, from Minnesota Congressman Rick Nolan and Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy, would help ensure that all money dedicated to the harbor maintenance fund will be used for just that.

According to Congressman Nolan the fund, which all shipping companies of the Great Lakes Seaway must pay into, has been severely misused for the past 25 years with much of it not being used for harbor maintenance.

Nolan says making sure the money is used for dredging projects will help combat the Great Lakes historically low water levels, and increase the region's economy.

"The Lakers are running at 80% capacity because of the need for additional harbor maintenance and dredging, and that's costing us business—it's costing us jobs," said Rep. Nolan.

Both Congressmen Nolan and Duffy say they're working with the U.S. Senate to keep forward motion on the amendment.
