Cable, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- the starting place for North America's largest cross country ski race, The American Birkebeiner, will be earning a new claim to fame next winter.

The trails around Cable Wisconsin are known throughout the world to skiiers. So well known, that in 2012 and 2013 the International Paralympic Nordic Skiing World Cup graced the groomed snow two years in a row.

"It's pretty amazing what this community did in organizing two events in 2012 & 2013 at the world cup and that's really the main reason the world championship will come to cable." Said Yuriy Gusev, Chairman Of The Organizing Committee for the 2015 Paralympics Nordic Ski World Championship.

You read right. The Paralympics Nordic Ski World Championship will be coming to Cable.

"To bring it to Northern Wisconsin, Northwestern Wisconsin and they have the opportunity to come and witness this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for anybody. These athletes are some of the best in the world." Said Director of Cable Area Chamber of Commerce, James Bolen.

The event will fill the town to the brim with athletes leaving others to find lodging outside Cable. Nearly 170 countries will be watching and putting on an event of this magnitude will take a lot of work.

"The announcement today was in part so we could start the recruiting process to line up the volunteers that we're going need to put this on." Said Bolen.

At least 350 volunteers will be needed each day of the event for it to be a success and even more during set up to prepare the Olympic site. The Championship is scheduled to take place from January 21st to February 2nd, 2015.

Cable will also be hosting the U.S. Championships two weeks prior to the world games.
