Carlton, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - The event—held at the Carlton High School, and sponsored by the Carlton Lion's Club—featured a variety of activities for attendees, from a basketball tournament to the "Hook and Slice" ice golf tournament.

The 'hottest' highlight, however, was the 17th annual Carlton Chili Cook–off, where proud locals compared age–old recipes in hopes of first place.

For North Carolina resident Jody Turek, coming home to compete in the contest was a family affair.

"We have a big competition within our family where we all enter our own chilis, and we don't tell each other what our chili ingredients are. It's all a secret, and we try to outdo each other every year. We've been doing this for many years," said Turek.

The event also featured a talent show, and an opportunity to dance to live music before the event's end.
