Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Your trip to the Miller Hill Mall won't be getting any shorter.

An extension of Joshua Avenue was voted down tonight by the Duluth City Council.

In an eight to one vote, councilors voted against the resolution that requested a design for a new, permanent road in and around Joshua Avenue from Maple Grove Road to Arrowhead Road.

Concerned community members spoke up about the resolution, saying the road project wouldn't benefit taxpayers and may pose a threat to surrounding wildlife.

"When we look at Joshua Avenue and we put it into our list of priorities it falls—it doesn't come to the top. It does not now, or I don't believe it will anytime in the near future."

Councilors Krug, Stauber, Larson and Gardner also spoke up in opposition to the Joshua Avenue project.

On December 17 the city council will be voting on more budget issues such as those surrounding the airport authority and city infrastructure.
