City of Ashland Receives Thousands in Grants

Ashland, WI (NNCNOW.com) - The city of Ashland recently received thousands of dollars in grant money for various projects around the city.

The Department of Administration awarded $1.4 million in grants to over 34 coastal projects across Wisconsin.

About, $61,500 was given to Prentice Park to make the trail more accessible.

They are also planning on putting in a canoe launch along the river at the park.

Another $27,000 was given to Bayview Pier to conduct a study.

The study will look into how they can better utilize the pier.

"When we do community projects like this, in order to attract businesses here, which creates jobs, you have to have a livable community. You have to have a place where people want to come, so by doing this we create a livable community," said Ashland Mayor Bill Whalen.

Another $30,000 in grants was given to the DNR to protect and restore wetlands across Ashland, Bayfield, and Douglas counties.
