Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The city Chief Financial Officer, David Montgomery, says the new budget and tax program, which re-did the formula for local government aid distribution, allows cities to plan ahead.
The budget increases aid to local governments by $120 million , which DFL Representative Roger Reinert says helps stabilize not only Duluth, but the entire Northwest region.
Montgomery says eliminating sales tax on city and county purchases, and property tax relief to families and businesses, is also a plus.
"That's an enormous impact for the county and also for the city. That will help us on our budget issues," said Montgomery.
Money for LGA will come from tax increases on Minnesota's top two percent earners, and new cigarette taxes.
