Duluth, MN (Northland's Newscenter) --- A driver narrowly escaped his vehicle today when it caught on fire as he was driving on the Miller Trunk Highway in front of Bullyan RV.

The driver smelled smoke in his car and pulled over to investigate...that's when he saw flames.

He was able to get out without injury and call for help.

About a quarter mile of the highway had to be closed off for around fifteen minutes as the heavy smoke cleared and the vehicle was removed.

"The biggest thing we ask people to do is just get out of the vehicle. Don't go back in,there is no personal belongings that are in there that are important enough for you to risk your life for," said Hermantown Police Chief Jim Crace.

Clean-up took about ten minutes and the Hermantown Fire Department, Air Base Fire Department and Hermantown Police all responded to the incident.
