Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- National child abuse statistics show that more than six million kids fall victim to child abuse every year.

In light of that fact, and in honor of National Child abuse prevention month, the First Witness Child Abuse resource center in Duluth held its annual "I Stand with Kids" event.

During the month long prevention education campaign community members, organizations and businesses can sponsor a blue kid figure.

The blue kid figures are then spread out along the Lakewalk in a giant show of community support for all kids to have a safe and happy childhood.

"It's really important that children and families know that there is a huge community that supports them," said Beth Olson, Executive Director of First Witness Child Abuse Resource Center

More than 250 community members, businesses and organizations sponsored "blue kid" figures.

All of the proceeds from the event will go to the First Witness Child Abuse Resource Center to help victims of child abuse.
