Duluth, MN (Northlands NewsCenter)
-- A Duluth family got quite the scare this morning near the Arial lift bridge.

This black lab was chasing a sea gull in Canal Park and when the bird flew over Lake Superior...the dog went straight for it.

After watching her dog swimming in the icy cold water, the owner, Dee Dee Elleson, climbed a ladder down the side of the pier to the lake and rescued the dog.

Elleson and her one year old Lab mix "Ella" clung to the ladder in the shipping canal, until Duluth fire and police arrived on the scene to rescue them.

Both Ella and her owner were cold and wet, but otherwise uninjured.
