Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - With the brewery boom taking over the Northland, another new venture is hoping to follow in its success.

Duluth couple Joel and Emily Vikre are in the middle of their master plan to open Duluth's first-ever distillery.

Vikre Distillery will include a variety of handcrafted gin and whiskeys from the fresh waters of Lake Superior.

Construction is currently underway at the Paulucci Building in Canal Park where handcrafted Lake Superior gin and whiskey's will begin.

The Vikre's say they are looking forward to partnering with Bent Paddle Brewing for the fermentation part of the project.

"There's a lot of history of distilling here actually and what makes this an amazing place for distilling are the natural resources, so the water from Lake Superior, which is also why we have great breweries here is the water," said owners Joel and Emily Vikre.

Vikre Distillery will partner with Bent Paddle Brewing for the fermentation part of the project.

The couple say with the Minnesota state license coming through this week, they should be up and running by November.
