Elderly Woman suffers life-threatening injuries after being hit by car

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A 70 year old woman sufferred life threatening injuries after being was hit by a 29 year old man driving an SUV in the Target parking lot on Miller Trunk Highway early Saturday evening.

The Duluth Police Department responded to the crash just before 4:30 Saturday night.

Witnesses say the woman that was hit was unresponsive.

She was transported by ambulance to Essentia Hospital with life threatening head injuries.

Officers put up crime scene tape around the scene. A male was escorted out an SUV on scene and put into a squad car.

An eyewitness gives their account on the situation.

"There was an old lady laying on the ground under an S-U-V type vehicle and so I threw mine in park and ran out there and put her head in a c-spine and just held it there to make sure everything was going to be OK until the emt's got there. There was blood, she wasn't responsive at all, it was pretty bad," said Chad Watczak, an eyewitness to the accident.

The accident is currently under investigation. .
