Ely, MN (NNCNOW.com) - For most of us, it is too cold to even think of going outside, let alone do anything involving snow and ice. Not the case for some people in Ely.
They spent the day getting started on a massive snow sculpture for the town's 20th annual Winter Festival.
During the Festival snow sculptors from across the world will create sculptures revolving around this year's theme of literature.
As for the cold, the sculptors say this is the best weather for their kind of work.
"We can do some things that we wouldn't normally be able to do. We can have snow hanging out in the air, where if it's a little bit warmer it will just fall off," said Nancy Scheibe.
The Winter Festival starts the first week of February.
