Cass Lake, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Nearly 100 Firefighters battled a 75 acre wildfire from the ground and the air near Cass Lake Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters used water bombers and helicopters along with trucks on the ground to battle the quarter mile wide fire.
Ten residencies and the Cass Lake Middle School and High school were evacuated as a precaution. Some abandoned out buildings were burned.
During a news conference Wednesday evening, authorities said the fire was being investigated as an act of arson and they had taken a juvenile into custody.
Eight fire departments were assisted by the DNR Forestry, U.S. Forest Service, Leech Lake Department of Resources Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs and Conservation Corps of MN.
The Minnesota DNR is expected to patrol the area overnight as well as monitor any hotspots.
