Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The devastation in the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan has prompted action from a former KBJR employee who is no stranger to relief efforts.

Former weekend anchor and nurse practitioner Julie Pearce was part of a months–long relief effort, following the Earthquake and Cholera outbreak that ravaged Haiti in 2010.

Pearce is flying to the Philippines to establish relief efforts in the region's more remote impacted islands.

Pearce says the brunt of her work will focus on providing aid, food, and security for the island's most impacted residents.

"My hope is to set this field hospital up, and get basic things—sanitation, safe water supply, security—secured and set up so that safe place can be created," said an excited Pearce just hours before her flight.

Pierce plans to stay for two weeks.
