Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com)-- Every day the 600,000 Lake Superior basin residents use the Great Lake's water for countless reasons.

That's what people were celebrating Sunday at Lake Superior Day at Barker's Island.

Music, poetry, and environmental exhibits helped community members consider their connection to Lake Superior.

"Lake Superior is a big part of why I live here and I think it's a big part of why a lot of people live here," said Deanna Erickson, a coordinator of the event. "It's beautiful and it creates a unique place and we're really lucky to have it."

Lake Superior Day is celebrated each year on the third Sunday in July.
