International Falls, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- In International Falls, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton spoke to community members about changes at the Boise Cascade Paper Mill, where nearly 300 employees were recently laid off.

For many laid off employees of the Boise paper mill this has been a difficult time.

"It's very emotional and all that but, it is what it is, you just pick yourself up and keep moving," said Joel Fults, a paper mill employee.

Governor Mark Dayton made a stop in International Falls to pledge continued support of dislocated workers.

He applauded the efforts of the Economic Response Team from Koochiching County, which is helping the 265 laid-off Boise Paper Mill employees recover.

"To have people who step forward and say 'We're going to share the responsibility for moving ahead. It's not going to be easy but we're going to make it happen.' That's when things do happen," said Governor Dayton.

"It really helped to bring a sense of calmness in a time of uncertainty," said Lori Lyman, the public affairs manager at the mill.

And although the uncertainty continues, the response team is focused on the future.

"Who knows what opportunities will present themselves, but we've got to be ready for those," said the Mayor Bob Anderson, mayor of International Falls.

Mayor Anderson says that he is confident that the local economy will make a come back, and is urging community members to remain positive through these difficult times.

"I certainly hope that all citizens will keep the faith here as we go forth in the weeks and months ahead."

Weeks and months that many hope hold promise for opportunities.

The economic response team connects people in need with available resources and support such as counseling, training, education and employment opportunities.
