It's Congenital Heart Defect Week and one Northland woman is working to create awareness for the disease and support for the families it affects.

When Jade Underhahl was just 23 weeks pregnant, doctors diagnosed her daughter Ailee with seven different congenital heart defects.

Today she planned a heart families event for those dealing with CHD.

About 40 to 50 people were in attendance.

"We planned an event so that our local heart families could get together and enjoy each others company and just get our heart community ties tighter in the Northland," said Underhahl.

Famous Daves catered the event and How Sweet it Is donated cake in support.

The plan is to expand the event to all Northland families next year.
