Duluth, MN (NNC NOW) - Dozens of northlanders gathered to spread the Christmas message at the annual Tree of Lights Ceremony this afternoon.

Several 4th grade students from Northland schools were selected to read the "Light of Love Essays" they wrote in honor of a special family member or friend.

Chamber Singers from Marshall School sang hymns and carols.

Community members honored and thanked loved ones by buying a light for the tree.

Donations from the twinkling lights will go toward grief support services to help others dealing with loss.

"They have done so much for us. They have had an impact on us, and they really are a part of us. We want to keep that, someway recognized," said St. Mary's President and Board Chair, Sister Kathleen Hofer.

There's still an opportunity to honor a loved one and donate.
